Turning in a splendid performance for the pinstripes in their series closer against the LA Angels, Nestor Cortes Jr. is enjoying a purple patch of form. With a league-leading 1.5 ERA at the time of writing, the mound looks secure for the Bronx Bombers. And while Nestor Cortes is sticking to his plans, his series sealing performance against the LA Angels has propelled him into even more prominence.
Nestor Cortes Jr. delivers from the mound
In the post-game presser, reporters were eager to know the secret behind the emergence of Nestor Cortes this season. With his signature smile and soft-spoken attitude, Cortes Jr. spoke about what had helped him most this season. Said Cortes Jr, “I feel like adapting and trusting what you’ve done in the past will get you through.”
And while it may seem like all is going well for Nestor Cortes Jr, he spoke of the troughs he has seen this season. “I adjusted to that and go a different route,” said Cortes Jr, “And once you think that way, you can probably go back to your strengths and back to the game plan that you’ve made before the game.”
It may be that the biggest asset that Nestor Cortes may possess is not necessarily just his ability, but quite possibly his ‘adapt-ability’.

And after a disappointing showing from the mound, Ohtani wasn’t up to facing Nestor Cortes’ strength fully either. Registering a walk across his full stay-at-home plate, Ohtani’s record at the Bronx will leave the Angels fans wanting.
Although, Cortes Jr. was nonchalant about dealing with the two-way phenom. “I go out there and pride myself on giving the best that I can,” he added, “whether I’m pitching against Ohtani, whether I’m pitching against any other person.”
