Even today, Derek Jeter is an icon and poster boy for American baseball. During his career, he exemplified sporting excellence and true sportsmanship. This made him extremely popular with almost everybody and made him a hero to many. His clutch performances and willingness to lead in good times and bad made him the perfect leader and role model.

Jeter’s career as a New York Yankee has made him a star sportsman. Considering his status, it’s only natural that even celebrities have a hard time keeping their cool around him. This applies to Jimmy Fallon as well, who is a massive Yankee fan and loved watching Jeter play.

What incident did Derek Jeter recall from his last game?

Jimmy Fallon was such a huge Jeter fan that he watched Jeter’s last game from behind the home plate. In an episode of The Tonight Show 8 years ago, Jeter recalled his last game at Yankee Stadium. In particular, Jeter remembered Fallon’s funny movements while sitting in the stands and cheering for the Yankees.

Jeter said,“You see him jumping up and down and it’s kind of, I don’t want to talk bad about you but it’s kind of awkward because he.. he, and let me explain why, because he doesn’t know what to do with his hands.”

Fallon proceeded to show a video of himself in the stands behind home plate clapping and jumping very awkwardly as Jeter prepares for the pitch. Fallon was probably not prepared for what happened next in Jeter’s last home game.

Jeter’s last home game ended in style

Jeter’s last game at Yankee Stadium was a nail-biter and the Hall of Famer got to finish in style. Derek Jeter hit a walk-off game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth inning to clinch a 6-5 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. His teammates mobbed him and they celebrated like never before. It was a fairy-tale ending for possibly the greatest New York Yankee of all time. A magical moment to end a magical career.
