

Baseball icon and the Hall of Famer, Derek Jeter, got a proper celebration of his induction into Cooperstown last night at the Yankee Stadium. The long-awaited celebration finally happened a year and a day later of the already delayed HOF celebration.
With it came multiple speculations of the changes in the New York Yankees management. The team’s play in the second half of this season is not nearly as good as it was in the first half. Therefore, not only the fans but the analysts are also thinking about some major changes in the team.

The current General Manager, Brian Cashman’s contract with the Yankees is about to end post this season. And people are hopping on the idea of Jeter becoming the next GM.
Is Derek Jeter going to be the GM of the team for real?
As of now, there is no such report of whether Cashman’s contract will end for good, or get renewed. It is important to know that, ever since Cashman became the general manager, he had multiple feuds with the Hall of Famer.?

“I don?t think he?s gonna want to be involved with the day-to-day rigors and the requirements of that,” Brandon Tierney said.?
Furthermore, he said, “I don?t know that he would want to do it. I guess I?d be somewhat amenable to it. Because of the experience with the marlins, seeing another franchise, and the budget restraints, more than anybody. Incredible baseball IQ, incredible sense of winning. I think you can do a lot worse. It would be an amazing story, but I don?t know if that?s the answer.”
It is still unknown whether Derek Jeter will be offered the role or not. Or even if he does get offered, maybe he won’t accept it. Either way, it is bound to create a buzz in the sports industry. Sports commentator, Brandon Tierney, thinks that although Jeter becoming the GM will be a good story, he does not think it would be the answer to the problems the Yankees are having.
?What was the feud between Jeter and Cashman?
It all happened because of Cashman’s habit of being brutally honest. During the 2010 contract negotiations, Cashman said he would rather have then-Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki than be prodded by Jeter.

He said,?“We’re not paying extra money for popularity. We’re paying for performance.”

After this, the two parties negotiated and settled down on a three-year contract. Jeter and Cashman had ups and downs. But Cashman still called the former baseball player the best he would ever have.
