Barry Bonds was one of the greatest MLB players of all time. However, he knowingly selected an introverted ‘loner’ life for himself. He had his fans and teammates throughout his career, but he avoided them all. A few months back, the Home Run King shared his candid thoughts on his loner, introverted attitude.

The 7x MVP was the focus of the media from the beginning. Either for his drug scandal or his controversial statements. Long after these brutal attacks and controversies, the legend shared his reasons for being alone. He even shed light on his fitness training.

Socializing is a common human tendency. There are, of course, exceptions, and Barry Bonds is one of them. While during his baseball career, it was his prime time to make friends and have fun with them, he wasted it. Even he used to refuse to give answers to the media. However, his behavior became normal after his retirement, and he used to share all his secrets like an open book.

In an interview with Ken Goldin last year, he divulged secrets about his life and others, such as why he prefers to be alone and fitness tips. While talking about his introverted attitude and lack of friends, he mentioned, “Me, I’m a gym freak. All I do, you know, I try to explain to people. I love training, just working out all the time. You know, that’s my love, it’s a passion I’ve always had. I’m very introverted, very loner person which you know me. I don’t socialize that much or often.”

The legend further explained his views on not having friends and said, “I love training, so if there’s people out there that wanna go ride a bike, you can meet me down the bottom of my hill, I’ll ride with anyone. I’ll train with anyone, anytime. My buddies always tell my friends of theirs. What Barry’s like, Barry lives in the gym, Barry would rather be in a gym than have friends.” The 14x All-Star didn’t regret this decision of being alone and focused on training.

However, this loner attitude cost the legend criticisms and brutal attacks often from players and media. He even lost several opportunities because of his lack of social skills.

Loneliness is not always beneficial. Especially when it is a figure like the 7xMVP, his lack of social skills cost him a lot in this career. Though his baseball skills are undeniable, he used to be mocked by his teammates inside and outside of the locker room. Even during his PED crisis, when the media was savaging him, he was almost alone with no one on his side. His lack of socializing took away endorsement opportunities as well.
