Aaron Judge is an iconic baseball player on the constant rise. An outfielder for the New York Yankees, Judge is famous for his powerful hitting and accurate defense. Maris previously set the single-season home run record with 61 homers in 1961. Albeit, the record got broken in 1998, the record still stands in the American League. Judge now stands at 44 home runs in the ongoing MLB season. While he seems to race towards the milestone achievement, Maris’ sons have different and opposing opinions.
Roger Maris’ sons’ differing opinions on Aaron Judge
With every concluded game and each new home run, Aaron Judge seems to fly towards Maris’ record. Although players like Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, and Barry Bonds have already broken Maris’ record, their homers are now refuted. The links to steroid use have tainted and stained all of McGwire, Sosa, and Bonds’ careers.
Although those records won’t get erased from the books due to the scandals, Judge can register his own name. Regardless of whether he can surpass Bonds’ record, Judge surely is challenging the late great Maris. So even if the combined MLB home run record may go untouched, Judge can surpass the American League record.
But Roger Maris’ son Kevin Maris doesn’t want Judge to surpass his father. According to a source, speaking with TMZ Sports, Kevin said, “I don’t know if anybody likes their record broken at the end of the day. But it’s nice to see him giving it a good run. Records are made to be broken at some point. If it happens to be this year, you’ve got to tip your hat to the guy.” Though Kevin did wish good luck to Judge.

Interestingly, Kevin’s brother Roger Maris Jr. holds a different opinion. According to a report speaking about Judge, Maris Jr. said, “Dad always said records are meant to be broken. You don’t want to see Dad’s record go, but if it happened, I can’t think of a better guy to do it. He’s a great Yankee.”
What is the likelihood of breaking into the record books?
From the midway break of the All-Star game onwards, Judge’s red-hot batting form has slightly cooled down. Also, the Yankees have slipped in form. But there is still a long way ahead. The Yankees have bright hopes of winning the American League Division and even possibly the World Series too. So, Judge is likely to step ahead of Maris.
