Has the beast finally awoken? It’s been over a month since the New York Yankees looked like a winning unit. Ever since mid-June, the team looks like it has lost more than it has won. However, throughout that stretch, there was one thing that remained constant. It was Aaron Boone’s “It’s right in front of us,” rallying cry. But now, it looks like the Subway Series sweep might have broken the camel’s back.
The Yankees entered the 2-game series with hopes of reversing their recent slide. The New York Mets were in the ascendancy but the Bronx Bombers too were coming off an encouraging display. But everything went for a toss as the Metsies got better of the Pinstripes. The real pain came on June 24 when the 27x World Series champions lost 12-3 to their alleged “little brothers.”
“We’ve got to play better, okay? We have it right in front of us,” Aaron Boone said in a fiery postgame conference, continuing, “We’re pissed off in there, we got a lot of pride in there…So stretch, slump, recent. I don’t give a s***. We’ve got to play better the rest of the way.” The skipper looked visibly frustrated with his team’s recent fall. However, even after that, he managed to insert a few “it’s right in front of us,” there.

Aaron Boone was asked at what point he'll stop calling this a poor stretch

The New York Yankees skipper declined to label the current bad form as a stretch. “I’m not defining…we got to play better,” Boone said with an ever-increasing volume, adding, “We have it right in front of us. We’re a really good team that has played s***ty of late.” But while Boone’s words showed his anger, one will have to wait to see whether they’ll have any effect on the team or not.

As for the Yankees, this downturn in form has become a pattern. Nearly every season they’ve started hot but finished horribly. However, there’s at least one consolation this time – the Baltimore Orioles aren’t doing any better either.
Aaron Boone’s New York Yankees stand on shaky ground with playoff dreams at stake
Who’d have thought during the beginning of June that the New York Yankees would be battling for a wild card spot? They were on a high and completely decimating their opponents. But since then, the team has played 32 games, losing 22 of them. Aaron Boone’s words show his frustrations, but despite this fall, the team remains just 1.5 games behind the O’s.

What’s your perspective on:
Is Aaron Boone's fiery outburst what the Yankees need to turn their season around?
Have an interesting take?
Despite being in the driver’s seat the O’s have failed to create a distance atop AL East. Due to this, the rapidly rising Boston Red Sox (54-47, 6 GB) is now within touching distance from the division leaders. So, as it stands, baseball’s toughest division is once again showing signs of life. And that is not good news for the current insipid Yankees. Now, the question is: can Boone’s fiery speech turn the clock backward?
Could the Bronx Bombers find themselves in the winning lane again, or will they miss playoffs for the second straight time? What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
