One of the most recognizable names in modern baseball, Derek Jeter, is a beloved name in the sport. Full of raw talent and oozing charm, the former shortstop defined an era in the history of the New York Yankees. Baseball was his one true love, and he was utterly devoted to it. Surrounded by an equally great team, the former New York Yankees captain led them to new heights every day.
One of the reasons fans fell in love with Jeter was how he approached each and every game, aiming to win. While winning at everything is near impossible for anyone, the retired player did his best. With a career worthy of the Hall of Fame, not many doubted his skills on the diamond. But when it came to things off the field, critics were everywhere. After all, when one is as famous as Jeter, people want to get to know him better. But his reserved personality was not for everyone. In fact, it might prove detrimental to him even today.

Years after retirement, Jeter is now stepping into a new role in baseball – an analyst for FOX Sports. For a job that involves a lot of talking, fans expect to see someone who’s comfortable in the role. And while the former Yankee knows the ins and out of baseball innately, some are challenging his role behind a microphone.
In his playing days, Jeter was not usually one to open up freely and give an insight into his personality or personal life. He wanted to focus on baseball only, and it reflected in his interviews. The New York Post’s Phil Mushnick, particularly, is concerned about what it means for the Captain’s new role on FOX.

“So Fox’s MLB studio show finally moved out add-nothing ex-slugger Frank Thomas to make room for Derek Jeter. One problem with that: Jeter was a very guarded, say-little, take-the-money-and-run type as a player. After years of such self-conditioning, I don’t expect better from him on the air,” Mushnick commented. But only time will tell how the Hall of Famer settles into his new position.
Jeter is reuniting with frenemies Alex Rodriguez and David Ortiz
It’s almost impossible to refer to Jeter and FOX and not mention Alex Rodriguez, who has worked for the channel for years. The two have a complicated history that is still the subject of talk today. While the ex-Yankees duo probably wants to leave the past buried, this new partnership likely spells trouble for them when it comes to critics.
