The same was the case with one of his pictures, taken by his teammate, Patrick Sandoval. Even though it showed a serious side of the Japanese wonder, it went viral.

In most of his pictures, Ohtani spots his trademark beautiful smile. But it was not the case with this photo. Sandoval clicked it during one of the road trips. He was unsure of its popularity, but Ohtani’s famous personality made the picture viral. In the latest video, Sandoval explained the story behind it. The video was shared on Instagram with the caption, “If da Vinci could explain the Mona Lisa, it might sound something like this.

Sandoval shares that he clicked the picture on the road trip through a disposable camera, so he could not see the digital print. He adds that before clicking it; he asked Ohtani to show a smile, which the latter did not do. Sandoval explains,” I was like, hopefully, this looks cool when it comes out, and it came out, and I’m like, oh, he’s eating…weird.”

He then put the pictures on Instagram, but Ohtani did not care much about it. The post got viral with thousands of shares on it. Meanwhile, Ohtani is playing in his last season with the Angeles and has done well till now. His future continues to be the source of speculation amongst fans and media alike.

Ohtani has a contract only till the end of the season. A lot of the teams have entered the race to sign him, but nothing is clear as of now. He is doing great this season with a win-loss record of 5-1. The World Baseball Classic winner has claimed 90 strikeouts at a WHIP of 0.95. He has scored 28 runs and averaged 0.269 with the bat.
