Derek Jeter and Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez were two of the best players to play in the same era and for the same franchise for a long time. Both started their career almost at the same time during the mid-90s. But when A-Rod signed for the New York Yankees in the 2004 season, MLB fans started comparing him to the then-Yankees captain Derek Jeter.

And to date, years after their retirement, the debate is still going on about who played better baseball. However, none other than Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez have come up with an answer to settle down the most-asked question in MLB over the last two decades.

Notably, Derek Jeter has collaborated with ESPN for a seven-series documentary. And in the second episode of ‘The Captain,’ A-Rod and Jeter have opened up about their individual records, friendship, and more.

Who was better, Alex Rodriguez or Derek Jeter?

From Jeter’s perspective, his MLB career was never about personal glory. The former Yankees captain always put his team forward. He was more of a team player compared to A-Rod. Derek Jeter never cared about how many home runs he hit. All he wanted was to win the game for his team.

And he shared the same in a promo of the upcoming episode of ‘The Captain’ where he and A-Rod are discussing their baseball records.

“You can compare statistics all you want. So I didn’t care who hit more home runs, who had more RBIs, who have more stolen bases? I compared who won more, okay? And we won,” Jeter said.

Talking about the same, A-Rod also expressed a similar opinion. Per A-Rod, people tried to create a rift between him and Jeter by comparing their stats. But A-Rod only wanted to be a team player.

“There was never that type of competition about who is better, this is better. We wanted to make our team great…,” Alex Rodriguez said. “But it’s stuff like that where people—I believe—really got off on trying to drive a wedge between Derek and I. At the beginning, you have this kind of innocent climb. Once you get a little bit too high, people then want to get two brothers and spilt them apart.”
