Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez is a man of many talents. Having played baseball for over 20 years, the Yankees legend was close to having a career in the National Football League (NFL). In America, every child’s dreams of playing either NBA, MLB, or NFL, and A-Rod was no different.
From the very start of his younger days, he knew he would be a sportsperson in the future. Very few people know that A-Rod has played football in his younger days. Though, he is not the first and only one who has played football in their early days. Even before him, MLB legends like Bo Jackson, Drew Henson, and a few more MLB stars have played football before having a successful career in baseball.

And just like them, A-Rod also used to play football in his college days. However, his mother’s advice worked wonders for the Yankees legend. He opted to have a professional career in baseball instead of the NFL.
Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez could have been a quarterback in football
Leave A-Rod for a moment. Even the NFL legend, Tom Brady, had started his sporting career in baseball before making it big in the NFL. The list is endless. In an old interview, A-Rod revealed how his mother’s advice helped him become a legendary baseball player.
The Yankees legend said when he asked his mom to shift his sporting career from baseball to football, she asked him to stay focused on baseball. Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez also revealed that he would have been a quarterback in football, if not playing baseball.
“I remember driving home in Seattle… So, I drove down for about 45 minutes on the way home. I came into tears and called my mom. And say, Mom, this is when Plan B comes into the effect, I am going back to the University of Miami to be a quarterback. I could not play baseball, could only play quarterbacks,” said A-Rod.

With the suggestion from his mom, A-Rod chose to play baseball. As he trusted his mother’s advised regarding what was best for him.
“Obviously, my eligibility was only right for baseball…,” A-Rod said. “My mom was like I am changing a lot. She better not come back, buckle up and get it right. And I think my mom gave me pretty good advice.”
