Home/MLB

LA Angels’ two-way phenom Shohei Ohtani, in over five years of his MLB career, has proved himself to be one of the best of the game. Sometimes, however, even the best of the best can go through a tough spell. The two-way phenom went through a bad run of form in the last few days. Being the iconic player Ohtani is, his slump, however, did not last very long.

To help him overcome the recent drop in form, his teammate, Hunter Renfroe, imparted some words of wisdom. Ohtani eventually was able to come out of his slump with a homer and a win in his corner.

A team sport rarely works if there’s no compatibility among the teammates. And the Angels, despite a drop in the form of any of its players, have remained supportive and hopeful of each other. In a total of nine games, Shohei Ohtani could not get a hit in four of them. Soon after hearing some helpful words from Renfroe, however, Shotime came back stronger.

In the Angels’ recent game against the Orioles, Shohei had two hits out of his five at-bats in the game. Out of those two, one was a home run, which eventually helped the team to win their 23rd game of the season. After the game, Renfroe spoke, “I said that because he was having a bit of a hard time pitching. ‘Just do your best. We’ll support you.’ Then he ended up helping himself.”

According to Hunter, Ohtani might have helped himself. But a few words of appreciation can always help speed up the process, which it seemingly did for the Ohtani.

How has Ohtani played so far this season?

Considering that the Angels have lost 22 games already this season, the regular season has not been kind to the team or Ohtani either. In his 120 at-bats this season, with an average of .283, Shohei has hit only seven home runs. He had remained hitless in the first two games with the Orioles in eight at-bats.
