Alex Bregman is on the news again, albeit for some good reasons this time! The Boston Red Sox have managed to sign All-Star Bregman for a three-year, $120 million contract. And now, the 30-year-old third baseman has made some revelations, citing the influence of Dustin Pedroia on his decision to join the Red Sox. But before moving on to how Dustin Pedroia played an influential role in Alex Bregman’s signing with the Red Sox, let’s have a look at Pedroia’s record.

Pedroia played his entire MLB career with the Boston Red Sox, starting from 2006 to 2019, where he played 1512 games across 14 seasons, posting a.299 batting average with 922 runs, 394 doubles, 15 triples, 138 stolen bases, and 140 home runs, along with a.365 on-base percentage and a.439 slugging percentage. That’s massive, isn’t it? Looking at the present, the Red Sox needed a right-handed batter in their left-heavy lineup, and thus, Bregman seemed to be the perfect choice.

However, when asked about what influenced Bregman to join the Red Sox on February 16, according to the Boston Sports Gordo’s post on X, he said, “My favorite player, Dustin Pedroia, did. Yeah, he reached out a few times this offseason and talked to me about how special it was to be a part of the Boston Red Sox. And, it’s pretty cool to talk with him as well as so many other former players here in Boston and current players on the team as well, so it was great.”

Alex Bregman has been all praise for him, as he mentioned how Pedroia approached him, talked, and knowing him as one of the best in MLB, Bregman made the final decision. Pedroia’s legacy lives on with Boston, as he led the Boston Red Sox to win the World Series titles in 2007 and 2013. Bregman appears to be greatly influenced by Pedroia, whom he grew up admiring and watching. Now that he had signed with the Boston, Bregman would watch Dustin Pedroia play in the same jersey he had always wanted.

The Red Sox have everything sorted out but there’s a problem

With Alex Bregman expected to make a good contribution just as he did all throughout his career before, the Boston Red Sox will gain a major boost in 2025. His presence tends to improve the Red Sox’s infield. In 2024, Bregman batted at an average of.260, with 30 doubles, two triples, and 26 home runs while making 142 starts at the third base along with three starts as a designated hitter here. But that’s not all!

What’s your perspective on:

Did Dustin Pedroia's legacy just land the Red Sox their next big star in Alex Bregman?

Have an interesting take?

With the addition of Walker Buehler and Garrett Crochet alongside Alex Bregman, the Red Sox have completed their roster perfectly to compete with other teams at the top. However, one problem remains! In case Bregman plays the third base, Rafael Devers may have to move to second base or shift to a designated hitter role. Things can also get complicated for the top prospect, Kristian Campbell, who is assumed to play third base, as stated by the Red Sox’s manager, Alex Cora.
