Juan Soto’s free agency has everyone in a chokehold, quite literally. But we bet mostly on the New York teams, both the New York Yankees and the New York Mets. While the former had a great experience with the 26-year-old and went to the World Series, mostly thanks to his post-season heroics, the Mets have been bent on clinching the player. Steve Cohen was ready to shell out $50 million more than anyone for Soto to come on their team.

However, we can’t just forget the LA Dodgers. They are the champions of the season and have the money needed to clinch Soto. Not to mention, they fulfill the two important and only criteria that Soto has—a winning team and a well-paying team. However, whilst this may sound like a great team in the making, many think it’s far from perfect.

Los Angeles Dodgers don’t need Soto!

Jon Heyman and Chris Rosso got into a conversation about Juan Soto. And there, Russo mentioned that Soto going to the Dodgers is ‘bad for baseball.’ Now this is a huge statement, but he gave his reasons. According to him, the Dodgers already have a lineup of talented players. And they indeed do, and they recently even signed Blake Snell. Again on a delayed contract, and for an enormous price. This is already making quite the noise in the baseball world!

The LA Dodgers have Yamamoto, Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and a lot of talent. Hence Russo mentions to Heyman, “How much is enough.?” Plus, they just won the championship. So from that standpoint, Russo feels it’s better if he doesn’t go to the Dodgers. Plus, given that the Dodgers already pay an arm and a leg for many players, taking on a player who comes with another $600 million, is not as smart as what Russo tried to portray.

Heyman mentions that he is “100% with you on this.” But they have a place they feel will be perfect for Soto, and no, it’s not the New York Yankees.

What’s your perspective on:

Would Soto joining the Dodgers ruin the competitive balance in baseball, or is it just smart business?

Juan Soto signing may happen sooner than anticipated

If you are betting on where Juan Soto lands, Chris Russo and Jon Heyman agree on one name—the New York Mets. And it makes sense, given that the Mets have Steve Cohen, who is all ready to build a winning roster. He is also ready to shell out more than any team owner for Juan Soto; while on other teams, Soto may not be the face of the franchise, in the Mets, he can be. According to Russo, the final news about Soto’s landing spot will come sooner than later.

“It’s going to be done a lot earlier than normal, thank God,” Russo mentioned, adding, “I hate when big free agents wait until March to get signed. Maybe Ohtani set a trend last year.” Well, this is news, given that earlier it was predicted that Juan Soto’s final answer would come in late. This came after Scott Boras, his agent, mentioned that Soto would take time to evaluate.

Heyman, too, shares Russo’s zeal and points out that Scott Boras has plenty on his plate with other top-tier clients. So, he might be asking Soto for an early decision. “Look, [Scott] Boras has got eight out of the top 16 players, right? He’s got Bregman, Burns, Snell, Alonso, and several others,” mentioned Heyman. Moreover, Heyman feels that the teams will benefit from an early decision because if they don’t get Soto, they can pivot quickly.
