As a result, the club has decided to cut costs and lower the debt. Reportedly, the Padres took $50 million to cover the expenses. Given it happened even after sellout games, the club does not want to take a risk. For this, they need to lower the pay roll from 250 million to around $200 million next season.

Notably, Soto is expected to earn $27 million next season. However, he was in the last year of the arbitration period before becoming a free agent. This makes him a perfect candidate for a trade, saving the cost, and earning in return. This gives a chance to the Yankees to sign Soto. However, will they do it this time?

A Chance for the New York Yankees to Correct the Mistake

During the last season, there was the possibility of the Yankees trading for Juan Soto, when the trade window was open, and New York was looking for an option for injured Aaron Judge. However, it did not happen, but that can finally change.

Reportedly, GM Brian Cashman has plans to be very proactive this off season. In the conversation with the media, he also addressed that they will try to achieve all the targets. As the Yankees need consistent offensive strength, Soto is the perfect fit for them and their plan for the buildup. His stats from the 2023 season also back this, where he finished at an average of 0.275 with 35 HRs, 109 RBIs, and an OPS of 0.930.
