The Texas Rangers have just made history. With their first World Series in 63 years against the Arizona Diamondbacks, it was one of the most thrilling match-ups between wild card teams. Managing the Lone Stars behind the scenes was Rangers skipper Bruce Bochy, who proved his meticulous managerial skills with this championship. He can bring the clubhouse together, despite the ups and downs, a man made for baseball.

But getting the 68-year-old to Texas wasn’t easy. According to Rangers GM Chris Young, Bochy was the “first choice” to manage the team after a 14-day search process. He felt that he was the right person that lead Rangers into the glorious future. He is the first skipper to come to the Rangers after having previously led a team to the Fall Classic.

Bochy Put His Retirement On Hold to Manage Texas Rangers

From San Diego to San Francisco, Bruce Bochy had seen it all. After his days at the plate ended in 1988, the veteran didn’t want to give up on baseball just yet. After standing at the helm of various minor league teams for the Padres, Bochy eventually stepped up to the majors in 1993. Leading the club to consecutive NL West titles for the first time in franchise history, Bochy was cementing his legend. But by 2006, his time in SD was up. It was then in San Francisco that Bochy bloomed.

Leading the Giants to three World Series championships, Bochy is just the 11th manager to have 2,000 wins in the major league. The other 10 are in the Hall of Fame, so Bochy will be in good company when he joins them someday. After a 13 seasons-long commitment to the Giants, the skipper announced he was retiring. After 2019, Bochy decided to take a step away from his beloved sport.

The veteran had not managed in the majors for a few years when Chris Young decided to bring him back. When offered the Rangers? managerial position, Bochy said, ?I am all in on this.? Becoming the 20 full-time manager in Rangers? history, Bochy resumed his 25-year career as a manager and paused his retirement.

He signed the 3-year record-breaking deal with the Rangers in Oct. 2022, and since then Texas has been on track for this championship. Speaking of the Ranger’s spectacular win, the 68-year-old remarked, ?I never thought in my wildest dreams when I started managing that I?d be in this position.?

Bruce Bochy Wins Title With Team He Previously Beat to Make History

While Bochy guided the Rangers this season to the championship, he had interestingly beaten them in his previous World Series title in 2010. With the Giants, he had defeated Rangers 4-1 in the series. And, now he has become the only manager to win title with the team he had previously defeated.

As Rangers have claimed victory over Diamondbacks, Bochy has now joined an elite group of six skippers with four World Series titles. These include Joe McCarthy (7), Casey Stengel (7), Connie Mack (5), Walt Alston (4), and Joe Torre (4). Bochy is all set to be enshrined in Cooperstown beside these skippers with his historic accomplishment one day.
