In the last few weeks, the Major League Baseball world has been plagued by pitcher-umpire arguments regarding foreign substances. Just recently, an umpire found an issue with the New York Yankees pitcher Domingo German’s hands and told him to wash his hands. Twice. However, nothing came of the situation. But then last week, New York Mets ace Max Scherzer got into an argument with an umpire over sticky substances. Apparently, his case was bad enough to not only get him ejected but earned him a 10-game suspension too.
Scherzer fought for himself by trying to make the umpire understand that it was just sweat and rosin, a substance that MLB allows. But the ump wasn’t convinced. After MLB’s official statement regarding the matter was released, it angered fans, but the Mets player remained silent afterward. That way, he got to appear in a game against the Atlanta Braves after his suspension ended. But the rain has put a damper on things.

According to MLB’s statement, the pitcher’s suspension was due to end Sunday night and Scherzer could have appeared in the last game of the series. But the postponement complicates things. The 38-year-old didn’t appeal his case to Major League Baseball in part because he wanted to face the Braves. Now that it is no longer happening, Scherzer’s punishment for missing out on 10 games will end on Monday.

As for the series opener, the Atlanta team won 4-0 against New York. Tylor Megill was pitching for the Mets, who seem to be in a winning slump. When it comes to these two teams, the Braves have a much better track record of wins.
