Rivalries are a natural part of every sport. It happens among teammates too, and Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter were not immune to it. The two MLB greats played together and helped their team win the championship. In 2009, Alex Rodriguez was in a relationship with Kate Hudson while his teammate, Derek Jeter, was dating Minka Kelly. Given that the two players were not only teammates, but also had a competitive rivalry too. It also extended off the field as their girlfriends, who were very popular, got involved in the rift. Their popularity also became another reason for the conflict.

According to Pagesix.com, Hudson and Kelly could not get along. They also reported quoting a source, “There’s been visible coldness between Minka and Kate. I don’t know if it’s a personal thing or just an extension of the ongoing A-Rod-Jeter rivalry.”
Notably, this is not the only case involving the ex-girlfriends of the two Yankees teammates. In another incident, Hudson got reportedly treated coldly and unpleasantly by Kelly. It led to massive upsetting in the team, and the Yankees’ management, as a result, had to take action. They banned the other wives and girlfriends from trashing Kate Hudson. Though putting controversies aside, both players fulfilled their duties in their team and the famous 2009 World Series title.

A memorable World Series Win for the Yankees!
Though Jeter and Rodriguez had some issues to sort out, they did not let them hamper their season. Both played astonishingly well and contributed to the Yankees’ title win that season. Jeter contributed 107 runs, while Rodriguez registered 78 runs that season. Jeter was amazing on the plate as he finished the season with an average of 0.334 and got equal support from A-Rod, who had an average of 0.286.
With the contribution from the two, the Yankees made it to the playoffs. Both stars continued their form in the playoffs, guiding their team to the 27th title with a win over the defending champions, Philadelphia Phillies.
