Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez were once the best of friends and had a really close bond. This was when both Jeter and A-Rod were in the early years of their careers and establishing their legacies. But the friendship didn’t last forever as Alex Rodriguez would make those unforgettable comments about Jeter and they grew apart. Although most people remember the comments that A-Rod made, only a few remember that he once tried to go back on them.

Notably, Alex Rodriguez made these comments while he was with the Texas Rangers, after signing the then-biggest sporting contract with the Rangers.

Following his statements on the then-Yankee Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez apparently tried to go back on them. He wanted to fix the damage that had been done. Per ESPN, Rodriguez said “How can I ever dog Derek Jeter? It’s impossible. There is nothing to knock.

He’s a great defensive player. He’s a great offensive player. He’s one of the top three players in the game for the greatest team of my era. “It’s my mistake because I said it. It’s not the journalist’s fault. It’s been my fault for just talking the game and being too general. I guess you have to be very specific.”

These comments went generally unheard in the chaos that was surrounding the apparent beef between A-Rod and Jeter. But unfortunately, Rodriguez was unable to undo what had already been done. And his friendship with Jeter was never the same.

Although the two were able to remain on friendly terms, their relationship was never the same. When A-Rod joined the New York Yankees, the two maintained a friendly professional relationship but didn’t get closer than that.

In an episode of the Kay Rod Cast, Alex Rodriguez opened up and said he regretted his friendship split with Derek Jeter. A-Rod said that he wished he and Jeter had stayed as close as they were when they were teenagers. And that he regretted not having that close relationship when they played on the Yankees together.
