In today’s day and age, maintaining a strong LinkedIn presence is almost necessary for one to construct a professional career. Surprisingly, the power of social media has stretched to recruiting in baseball as well. Similarly, Stone Garret made his comeback to baseball, all thanks to his LinkedIn profile.
Notably, before making his Major League debut in 2022, Stone Garret spent eight years in the Minor Leagues. After playing for multiple teams in the minor league, working as a real estate agent, and trying to build connections on LinkedIn, finally, he made the big and long-awaited Major League break.

How did LinkedIn help Stone Garret?
Garret started his minor league career after getting drafted by the Miami Marlins in the eighth round of the 2014 draft. Since then, he spent eight seasons in the minor leagues. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Marlins released him. To his good fortune, just as the Marlins released Stone, he got his real estate license. That is also when he created his LinkedIn profile. After spending a year as a real estate agent, Garret was about to delete his LinkedIn profile. Then, everything changed.
Stone Garrett's MLB debut was a certified success.

He received a direct message on LinkedIn from an old video coordinator of the Gulf Coast League. It said, “Hey, glad to see you doing real estate.” While testing his luck, Stone replied by saying, “Hey, do you know anybody that needs an outfielder? I feel like I can still compete at Double-A or above.” The reply was hopeful, at best. He said, “No, but let me ask around.”
Two days later, crediting Brett West, a former Marlins management member who now worked for the Diamondbacks, Stone Garret began his spring training. Garret started the 2022 season for the Reno Aces – a triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. And as of Wednesday, Stone Garret debuted for the Arizona Diamondbacks against the San Francisco Giants.
Stone calls Mom and Dad!
After getting called to the Major League, Stone Garret called mom and dad. In an extremely wholesome conversation, Garret started with a harmless prank and asked his mom to look for his insurance. After his mother reached the call, he broke the news to them. He said, “I’m lying. Do you know why I’m calling you? I’m going to San Francisco, mom. I’m going to the big leagues.” Subsequently, we can hear Stone’s mother scream out of happiness.

Markedly, the debutant contributed to the Diamondback’s 3-2 victory against the Giants by scoring 1 run, 2 doubles, and 1 stolen base. All things considered, this is just the beginning of the journey for this 26-year-old. Are you running to make your LinkedIn profile now?
