Right now, it’s not the New York Mets or the Los Angeles Dodgers who are in the spotlight anymore—it’s the Houston Astros who are stealing all that limelight, and the burning question is: What’s next for Alex Bregman and his future with the team? Can they retain him, given he will probably ask for $200 million? While fans and surely other teams were left wondering, the general manager of the Astros, Dana Brown, has decided to drop another bombshell rather casually. He spiced things up by saying that he and the team are open to listening to offers for ‘anyone on the roster’!
So, not just Bregman, but it could be anyone, and suddenly all eyes are now on Kyle Tucker. Tucker has a year left till he becomes a free agent, and his name has suddenly shot up in the other team’s off-season wishlist. The Chicago Cubs are ready to pay up and scoop Tucker from the Astros. Plus, there is news that the Astros are looking at trading with the New York Yankees for their stellar pitcher Luis Gil in return. Fans aren’t thrilled about the team’s future, given their stars are being sent away. But before the panic hit a maximum, Dana Brown decided to do some damage control.

Kyle Tucker is seen to be a perfect replacement for Juan Soto. The 27-year-old, according to insiders like Ken Rosenthal, is a balanced player and, not to forget, a Gold Glove winner. However, with Soto amassing a contract of $756 million, it also might raise Tucker’s market value and demand. “$300 million or perhaps even $400 million,” quotes Joel Sherman of the NY Post. However, owner Jim Crane isn’t the one to spend so heavily on a player and isn’t afraid to let go of players when the need comes. Fans are tensed with such a big player leaving and possibly ruining their 2025 roster.
However, Dana Brown reassured fans, saying that isn’t the case. “We will not make any trades that don’t make sense in terms of winning the division, getting back to the postseason, and all that. We’re not trying to break the team down. The trade would have to make sense in that we’re not weakening our club,” said Brown, according to Chandler Rome of The Athletic. Dana Brown previously mentioned that he believes they could win the AL West again without Kyle Tucker on the roster. So, it remains to see what transpires in the end.
The Yankees have a real interest in Alex Bregman
The New York Yankees don’t have time to wait after the massive loss of Juan Soto to the Mets. It’s a big blow, but the off-season is on, and they need to lock in the next player before another mishap. And apparently, they have “real interest” in third baseman Alex Bregman, as reported by Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. Now Bregman is a cornerstone player for the Astros and was with them for nine seasons. However, he is expecting a big payday, and the Astros might not be able to fulfill it.

The New York Yankees, meanwhile, want to bolster their offense, and they need a player of Alex Bregman’s caliber. He is extremely versatile and consistent, and even though his 2024 campaign was quiet, he remains a standout option. This season he hit .260/.315/.453 with 26 home runs and a 118 OPS+. Plus, he is known for his ability to avoid strikeouts and has never fanned more than 97 times in one season. So, his defensive play is strong, something that fits well with the Yankees’ plan.
New York faces stiff competition from the rest of the teams, with everyone from the Red Sox, Blue Jays, Tigers, and Phillies also expressing interest. Do you think Bregman will be in pinstripes next season? Let us know below.
