It’s Dana Brown’s turn now, and the clock is ticking. As Houston’s general manager, he’s about to face a challenge that has haunted the Astros in recent years—a tradition that’s not quite the kind you want to inherit. Now, it’s Alex Bregman’s turn to be part of the same conversation. The third baseman, who’s been the heartbeat of the lineup for years, is now a question mark for the 2025 season. With his contract winding down, many fans are already bracing themselves for the inevitable: will Bregman likely be playing elsewhere next season?
The GM has different views and is quite vocal about it too. Dana Brown’s message was clear: “We’d love to have Alex Bregman back. It’s our biggest priority.” And he reiterated it- four times, to be exact, during a 40-minute meeting with reporters on Tuesday. It sounded reassuring at first, a commitment to keeping the heart and soul of the team. But for anyone who’s been around long enough, those words carry a weight that’s hard to ignore. They’re eerily familiar, almost déjà vu-like, echoing the same rhetoric that once surrounded George Springer and Carlos Correa – both ultimately walked away from Houston despite similar promises.
Dana Brown said he has had "productive" conversations with Scott Boras regarding Alex Bregman. Brown declined to say whether a formal offer was made, but added “our biggest priority is third base, without a doubt. We’d love to have Alex Bregman back. It’s our biggest priority"

Asked if Bregman is likely to bolt, Brown’s answer said he hasn’t even begun to consider it. “Our mindset right now is that he’s not going elsewhere and we want to sign him,” he said, speaking with confidence but adding, “If he ends up going elsewhere, we’ll cross that bridge when we get there, but I’m going into this offseason with the thought that we’re going to get Bregman back. Hopefully we can do it.” Brown’s words show he’s all in on Bregman, but the true test will come when the negotiations begin.
Brown feels confident about his talks with Alex Bergman’s agent
All attention will fall on agent Scott Boras this Wednesday, who will be giving his yearly ‘State of the Game’ address. It will give some added context to the pursuit of the Houston Astros of Alex Bregman at the forum. Dana Brown has indeed been pretty busy going over several “productive” conversations with Boras during that five-day exclusive negotiation window.

When pressed on whether the Astros had made a formal offer to Bregman, Brown remained non-committal. “I would characterize it as optimistic conversations,” he said, adding, “Bregman’s been a pillar here. Scott is willing to listen, and we had really good, productive conversations.” There’s no denying the optimism in Brown’s words, but the lack of confirmation on a formal offer suggests the Astros aren’t quite there yet. Both sides have moved forward, but it also leaves open the possibility that the figures being discussed haven’t yet aligned enough for a formal proposal.
What’s your perspective on:
Will Alex Bregman follow the path of Springer and Correa, or stay loyal to Houston?
Have an interesting take?
Boras is notoriously popular for driving up the price on his clients, and with Alex Bregman’s status as one of the most valuable players on the market, that could put Houston in a tricky spot. Now, the question is how far apart they are on the numbers, and if the Astros can get a way that makes Boras and Bregman meet in the middle. This will get the third baseman in Houston for an extended period, so, what do you predict will happen? Let us know in the comments.
