At this point, Houston Astros fans must be thinking—Here we go again!
As if last year’s injury struggles weren’t enough, this time, too, the string has caught along.
Luis Garcia, the right-hander who missed all of 2024 recovering from Tommy John surgery, was supposed to make a big comeback. He was also scheduled to throw live batting practice. But instead of a step forward, the Astros have gone two steps behind. Because Garcia’s session just got scrapped at the last minute. The reason is a sore elbow!

Astros pitcher Luis Garcia was supposed to throw a live batting practice session today, but manager Joe Espada said he came down with a sore elbow and will be examined by doctors.

This is the last thing anyone in Houston wanted to hear. Manager Joe Espada has confirmed that Garcia is being shut down for now. However, the $1.87 million star will be under regular check-up. If the doctor gives positive news, great, but if it’s serious—this could be trouble for Hosuton’s pitching depth.
Luis Garcia was supposed to be a key piece in the Houston Astros rotation this time. Because even though last season was a bummer, remember he was the AL Rookie of the Year runner-up in 2021. His 2022 stint was great too, and his 3.61 career ERA just says why the team was relying on him to make a good comeback. But now everything is up in the air!
The timing couldn’t have been worse, because the Houston Astros are already missing some key arms. Lance McCullers Jr. is still working to make his way back. Cristian Javier and J.P. France are also recovering. Houston was banking on Luis Garcia!
What’s your perspective on:
Can the Astros survive another season of injuries, or is their pitching depth too thin?

In fact, Garcia isn’t the only heartbreak recently.
Houston Astros’ top prospect injured
There is one top prospect still staying put in spring training. And this only means one thing—they have a good shot at making it on the opening day. And that’s Astros’ Zach Dezenzo, their No. 5 prospect who has been killing it this spring training. The number he put up just speaks to his talent. He slashed a .378/.410/.622 with two home runs, six RBIs, and seven runs scored in 15 games.

Dezenzo is super versatile and has played all over the field, from the corner outfield to first base to even third. But sadly for the team, disaster struck yet again.

Dezenzo got the start at first, went 1-for-2 with a double, but then took a shot to the face when diving for the ball. He left the game, and clearly, things looked serious. But there is good news—it’s not so much.
He suffered a TMJ, and while it is a painful injury, it’s not meant to sideline him for long. The Astros, according to Brian McTaggart of MLB, are awaiting more test results, but still, a long absence might be off the cards.
Even though right now, Houston Astros is stacked, when a player is performing to his level, they find a way to fit him. For now, Jose Altuve has been shifted to left field, Chas McCormick is taking on right field, Christian Walker is at first, and Isaac Paredes has third base covered.

So, all that the team can now do is hope both the players make a swift comeback so they can make some serious noise this season. Right?
