In the world of professional sports, injuries are like unwelcome guests who show up unannounced and wreak havoc. This is exactly what happened with New York Mets’ phenomenal pitcher Edwin Diaz, in the most unexpected way possible. After winning a stunning match against the Dominican Republic, the Puerto Rican was celebrating with his teammates, with all his might. Not knowing that the glorious win was about to be overshadowed by his injury.
While hopping up and down alongside his teammates, the athlete crumpled to the ground, clutching his right leg. He had torn the patellar tendon in his knee, and now, will likely be out for the 2023 season. This had some fans criticizing the timing of the World Baseball Classic because the Met opener was injured right before the start of the MLB season. Now another piece of news is making its rounds regarding his salary situation.

Mets GM, Billy Eppler, provided an update on Diaz’s recovery, saying that the estimated timeline for his return is 8 months. The pitcher underwent successful surgery to repair his patellar tendon and is expected to begin his rehab program in a week.
Also, despite the misfortune, the ace remains positive and grateful for the support of his fans. In a message to his fans, he said, “To all my beloved fans, especially the Mets fans, I want to let you know that I am doing well and healing. I feel blessed and grateful for your support with messages and prayers. Thank you very much! I can’t wait to see you guys in NY again and play those trumpets.”
How did fans react to the reimbursement news?
Fans are people who live and breathe for their favorite teams and players. So when news broke that Edwin Diaz would be out for the entire 2023 season due to the devastating injury, Mets fans were understandably heartbroken. Sure, the team might be getting reimbursed for his salary, but what good are a few million bucks when their star pitcher is sidelined for a whole year?
