Ambidextrous players in baseball aren’t exactly a new thing but they’re rare enough that fans get excited watching them. While most professional pitchers prefer one arm to throw the ball, some perform equally well with both. And it seems like baseball has a new prospect that might make it to the major leagues one day. Mississippi State freshman Jurrangelo Cijntje is wowing audiences with his switch-pitching.
The Brewers drafted Cijntje last year but the 19-year-old decided to lend his talents to college baseball first. In a game against Louisiana-Monroe, Cijntje struck out seven hitters and dominated the game. The baseballer is naturally a lefty, although no one would be able to tell that with his pitching skills. Cijntje’s skills have already left spectators abuzz with talk, one wonders how he would do in Major League Baseball.

Fun fact about ambidexterity – only about 1% of the world’s population is truly ambidextrous. And what that means is that most people have a dominant hand but can use the non-dominant one equally well. Cijntje prefers his left but throws well with both. In fact, his speed is higher while throwing right-handed, at about 97 MPH, while the left has 92 MPH. Impressed yet?

Cijntje started pitching with his right hand as a 6-year-old trying to copy his dad, who is right-handed and plays baseball for the Netherlands. Thanks to a curiosity that is natural in most kids, the Mississippi State freshman gained a valuable skill that is already putting him on the map. With his switch-pitching skills, it’s no wonder Cijntje only allowed one hit in four scoreless innings in the game against Louisiana-Monroe.
Among some good-hearted joking, fans have been left awestruck

Some made jokes about how he was on par to become a rich athlete owing to his talent, “Kid is gonna make lots of money in the league”, “Highest contract ever incoming.”
