The NY Yankees really struggled to reach a single victory in August. However, after clean sweeping the Mets in the Subway Series towards the end of August, the Bronx Bombers saw a ray of sunshine. That very ray of hope resulted in the Yankees’ unparalleled comeback.

Similarly, yesterday’s 14-2 slaughter of the Pirates time traveled back to the good old Yankee days and indicated a potential team effort. Yesterday wasn’t about the current brightest star Aaron Judge, it was about the entire team stepping up and causing some irreparable and unforgettable damage. However, one of the Yanks did shine up for a special reason.

Gleyber Torres joins A-Rod, DiMaggio, and others

The Pinstripes beat the Pirates 14-2 last night, with Gleyber Torres making it to the Yankee history books. During the eighth innings of the game, Torres slammed two homers. Yes, two homers in the same innings.

With this insane display of power hitting, Torres joined four other Yankees who have achieved this feat in the past.

  1. Alex Rodriguez (who did it twice, most recently on Oct. 4, 2009)
  2. Cliff Johnson (1977),
  3. Joe Pepitone (1962)
  4. Joe DiMaggio (1936)

Balanced against an exceptional game for Torres, fans remembered the potential chance of him being traded to another team before the trading window closed.

Fans pointed out Pirates pitcher Eric Stout missing out on a Judge homer but getting dominated by Torres.

NY Yankees in 2022

The Judge-starred 2022 season for the Yanks has been a roller-coaster ride for the management, players, and, most importantly, the sensitive and volatile Yankee fanbase. 2022 kicked off with the Pinstripes being the fastest team to 70 victories. Conversely, their victorious run significantly slowed down through August and postseason question marks started to arise.

However, the Yanks regrouped and came back stronger than ever before. And now, after clean sweeping the Pirates, the New York Yankees look extremely well-prepared for the postseason and a hopeful World Series. Notably, the last World Series appearance for the Yanks was back in 2009, which was also their last victory. But this year, the Yanks house an in-form Aaron Judge and a winning attitude.
