Doug Mientkiewicz was part of the New York Yankees in 2007. He played alongside Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez, two of the greats of the modern MLB era. Doug had a great understanding of Jeter and has praised Jeter in the recent past. But when it comes to his former high school and Yankees teammate Rodriguez, Doug has some critical views to share.
Notably, Doug and Alex were part of the Westminster Christian High School based in Miami. But the understanding between the two is not what everyone expects it to be. The former Yankees’ first baseman shared some insight about his former teammate Rodriguez from their time together in high school.
Mientkiewicz has some harsh words for Alex Rodriguez.

In the latest interview, Mientkiewicz spoke about his time with Rodriguez during high school. He added that Rodriguez did not value his former teammates. He then talked about the incident when Rodriguez slept during a celebration. Mientkiewicz shared, ” I have a picture of him sleeping at the table and his temporal shirt. I’m like, are you serious?”

Mientkiewicz then talked about how Rodriguez has distanced from his high school teammates. He shared, “I’m still friends with my high school team. We still text often, not as often as we should, but we still text group threads, constantly bad badgering each other. And it’s just, you know, he’s just distanced from it.” To sum up his understanding of Rodriguez as a person, Doug said, “I always said that he’s going to die a lonely man.”

Doug Mientkiewicz 2004 World Series Win and the Yankees tenure
Doug was part of the Boston Red Sox and won the 2004 world series championship with them. But Mientkiewicz had a difficult time after the win because of the controversy related to the game ball. He also faced death threats from the fans for a mistake. After two seasons of the championship title, Doug had a season-long stint at the Yankees. He contributed 26 runs at an average of 0.277 and an OPS of 0.789. But his comments against his former teammate Rodriguez come as a surprise.
