The Philadelphia Phillies are killing it right now, to say the least. Having secured second place in one of the toughest divisions in the league, the team is ending their regular season with a bang. With Bryce Harper a beacon of hope despite his offseason Tommy John surgery, there has also been Trea Turner. The shortstop gave fans hope during the World Baseball Classic with a splendid performance. But the regular season brought with it an unfortunate slump.

However, the city of Philadelphia showed him they still supported him through thick and thin. When his hitting struggles reached their peak, many were concerned about his lack of performance despite an 11-year, $300 million deal. But on August 4th against the Kansas City Royals, Philly fans showered him with love and a standing ovation. Since then, Turner has been on a hot streak of success. And a teammate is joining in on the support.

Trea Turner has only been the latest in a series of excellent performances from the Phillies. Nick Castellanos, star third baseman, has been part of the history-making month of August. With 59 home runs in the last month, the Philadelphia team has topped its franchise best. And among the best of them with nine home runs is, of course, Turner. Even his teammates have noticed the difference in his play, and Castellanos is all in favor.

“He needs to feel comfortable, he needs to feel welcome. I know what that’s like. And I think that what that standing ovation does is like, ‘Hey like, we have your back. This is your new home. We want you to succeed. We want you to play well,'” the catcher told reporters.

“And, you know like, baseball is a hard game. Not everybody can play it, especially every day, and every dollar that Trea has signed, he’s earned. And he’s worth it, right? Like, he hits a ball into the second deck in left field and he has 250 stolen bases in his career.”

Interestingly, Castellanos’ own five-year contract will see him in Philly through the 2027 season. But he has high hopes for Turner, as a hilarious comment proved.

It just took a curtain call from the City of Brotherly Love for Turner to do a 180 and prove his contract’s worth. Castellanos thinks it was just a bad bump in the shortstop’s story and now that he’s started, he won’t stop. His 11-year contract makes sure Turner will most likely retire in Philly, and by that time, Castellanos will probably be long gone.

“When Trea’s playing his last year here, I’m going to be in the bar with Liam having a drink,” the third baseman continues in the video shared by Talkin’ Baseball. For reference, Liam is Castellano’s 10-year-old son.
