Is Shohei Ohtani the greatest two-way player in MLB history after this World Series triumph?

Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers have won. They have the 2024 World Series title; in Game 5, the Dodgers staged a comeback from a five-run deficit to edge out the New York Yankees 7-6, securing the series 4-1 at Yankee Stadium. This victory marks the Dodgers’ eighth championship title. For Ohtani, this triumph is especially significant as it’s his first World Series appearance. It is also the inaugural year of his groundbreaking 10-year, $700 million contract with the Dodgers.

While everyone sings Shotime’s praises, a specific Yankee legend wasn’t shy about it too. Derek Jeter discussed the impact he has on the Dodgers and their win. Former Yankee Jeter showered praises on the Japanese star player, gushing about him in a video shared by MLB on Fox on Instagram. “He’s done it all. The only challenge Ohtani’s gonna have is to do it again. Because people are gonna expect now.” Jeter said while adding, “Ohtani’s one of those you just can’t take your eyes off of him.”

Ohtani really made waves in his first season with the Dodgers – becoming the first player in MLB history to hit 50 homers and steal 50 bases in a single season is just mind-blowing! Now, the buzz around him getting the National League MVP is electricn- if the two-way phenom pulls that off, he’ll join an elite group as only the second player ever to win it in both leagues.

Moreover, Shohei Ohtani would be the first to do it as a full-time designated hitter. It was hard for Shotime after he partially dislocated his shoulder in Game 2, but guess know what? That didn’t seem to drown his spirits at all. Watching him celebrate with his teammates, getting drenched in champagne and beer, showcased just how much the team victory meant to him.

Shohei Ohtani and others led the Dodgers to World Series win

The 2004 Red Sox are legendary for their historic comeback against the Yankees, and it’s cool that Dave Roberts was part of that team. It must’ve felt surreal for him to lead the Dodgers to such a dramatic victory after experiencing a similar situation as a player. The Dodgers’ five-run comeback was epic—no one had ever done that to clinch a championship before – using eight pitchers? That was a bold strategy, but it totally paid off!

Have an interesting take?

The game looked like it was going the Yankees’ way when they jumped out to that 5-0 lead, especially with Aaron Judge finally getting in on the action with his first home run. But then, everything changed in the fifth. Those errors were killer, especially with Judge dropping that pop-up. As the team imploded, this opportunity opened the door for the Dodgers to capitalize. Mookie Betts coming through with that sac fly to take the lead was such a pivotal moment.

And then, Walker Buehler sealed the deal by striking out Verdugo. Now, it’s time for Shohei Ohtani and his team to celebrate; so do you think this comeback will be remembered in Dodgers’ history? Let us know below.
