Another injury, another nightmare! The MLB world is no stranger to setbacks, but some hit harder than others. Unfortunately for Gerrit Cole, the New York Yankees’ ace, this one feels like a gut punch. Just when the team was hoping for a strong season from their star pitcher, Cole found himself facing yet another rough patch. And it’s not the kind of news anyone in the Yankees camp wanted to hear.

After a rough outing in Thursday’s spring training, where the Yankees faced a blow against the Minnesota Twins, ace star Gerrit Cole is set to have his pitching elbow examined. Cole got hit around against the Twins, allowing six runs on five hits (two homers) in 2.2 innings. Notably, while there was nothing obvious as far as Cole’s velocity was concerned, the injury has left the entire team worrying given the long list of injuries already prevalent. And now, Cole has shared an honest take on his update.

Speaking about his situation, Cole remarked, “I’m concerned.” Continuing further, he added, that he’s “hopeful,” but “I’m concerned.” Remember, Thursday was Cole’s second appearance of the spring. While he looked immensely in form in the first match, with one run allowed and five strikeouts in 3.1 innings against the Toronto Blue Jays, his woes emerged only after the second match. But this is not the first time when Cole has faced such a challenge.

Gerrit Cole faced a similar situation last year. He was diagnosed with an elbow-related injury scare in spring training last season. He was eventually forced to miss more than two months last year after being diagnosed with nerve inflammation and edema. To make matters worse for the Yankees this year, this is not the only concern that they are facing in terms of their players.

Gerrit Cole is not the only star who will be concerning the Yankees

Gerrit Cole’s injury has left a big void for the New York Yankees to take care of. However, he is not the only player who will remain absent from action for the team. The reigning AL Rookie of the Year, Luis Gil is also out from the team for at least three months, per reports, after sustaining a high-grade right lat strain. But if you think this is all, hold on.

Giancarlo Stanton, another key player for the Yankees, is struggling to return to action after facing elbow issues since mid-January. Besides, he received another round of platelet-rich plasma injections on Thursday. While he is set to join the camp soon, it is still unclear when exactly he will be able to continue baseball-related activities.
