The 2022 MLB season was iconic in more than one way. Throughout the Yankees’ history, records have been broken and new ones set rather regularly. And in 2022, captain Aaron Judge broke a record that was the last set in 1961. To cheering audiences and loud crowds, Judge hit the 62nd homer for a single season, surpassing Roger Maris. But sometimes, no matter what one does, people will find a way to criticize you.

Judge received some heat from fans in the 2022 postseason. When one starts to climb upwards, it’s easy to fall back down instead of going higher. After an amazing year, Maris went into the 1962 season with his expectations toned down. And according to his son, that is exactly what Aaron Judge should do as well.

Speaking from experience, he told Dan Martin, “If Aaron didn’t want the pressure, he wouldn’t have come back to New York. But even with him being named captain, he knows the pressure of New York is not going to get worse than last year. If he does what he’s been doing, plays winning baseball and they win, it doesn’t matter if he hits 20 home runs, no one is going to care. It’s only when you don’t win. He needs to focus on winning a championship.”

It’s normal to see a player’s performance go up and down because humans are not machines. It only becomes a problem when the graph goes consistently down without major leaps upwards.

Do the Yankees have a chance at winning the World Series next season?

Now that Judge is back in action, the Bronx Bombers might have a serious chance of winning with their current roster. All-Rise was headed to free agency when the Steinbrenner family decided they couldn’t do without him and offered him another chance with the Yankees. Judge agreed to a nine-year, $360 million contract and was even named captain.

With the newest member, Carlos Rodon, and with players like Luis Severino, Nestor Cortes, Gerrit Cole, and Frankie Montas, the Pinstripes have a strong line-up. The offense is still up in the air, as there are concerns about Giancarlo Stanton’s health. Not only that, will Josh Donaldson and Gleyber Torres live up to their potential?
