When a team doesn’t perform, the manager ends up paying the price. Rightly so with the New York Yankees’ discouraging performance this regular season, skipper Aaron Boone has faced the music. He has taken the brunt of fans, creating doubts about his own credibility. Seems like someone important had already predicted the Yankees’ 2023.

With the Yankees not even making it to the postseason, let alone winning the Series Championship, 2023 has been disappointing for the mega-franchise. Among the multiple instances when the fans were enraged, one particular comment by Aaron Boone’s former teammate has resurfaced, which is in agreement with the masses and vice versa.

Back in 2022, Mariano Rivera made comments on Yankees’ manager Aaron Boone after the team suffered yet another defeat in the postseason. As reported by ESPN, back in October 2022 at the Sports Forum of the Panamanian Association of Business Executives, Rivera said in Spanish, “If I’m the owner, Aaron Boone wouldn’t stay.”

“Sometimes when things don’t come out the way we want them to be, the blame falls on the manager. And someone has to pay for the blame, the players won’t get fired.” The five-time World Series winner’s remarks once again surfaced later in the day yesterday, causing a stir in the media.

That being said, it is not a surprise that 2023 unfurled for the Yankees the way it did. Fans from all over the world still stand by the thought that the Pinstripes need a change in manager. Boone, on the other hand, holds a very optimistic attitude.

Earlier this month he said, “I do think there’s tremendous opportunity for growth through adversity and what’s been a tough season.” Though few might be convinced by this, a majority think otherwise.

Though the injury-stained Yankees performed their best this season after losing their hopes to make it to the playoffs, disappointment prevails. Captain Aaron Judge is set to make some major decisions in the hope of a positive 2024. But fans are not ones to remain silent.

Fans Sided With Mariano Rivera

Resonating with the Sandman’s thoughts about the 50-year-old Boone fans came flooded Twitter. Fans brought back what the 13x All-Star and reiterated Boone’s performance.
