Every day, Shohei Ohtani fashions a new spectacle for his fans. This time, it was Oriole Park that was witness to an Ohtani masterclass. Both on the mound and in the box. Maybe not that much on the mound, but he still broke a new record and continued to leave his massive MLB-wide fanbase in awe.

Taking on the Orioles, the Japanese-born sensation created history, as he started the game on the mound, and also played as a designated hitter, going 4-5 and almost managing a cycle, for the second time this season. However, as Ohtani continues to create and break records, it is not always love for him, as jealous fans pointed out his under-average performance on the mound.

Ohtani managed a homer, a triple, a single, and a walk in the game, and only fell a double short of a cycle. This was the first time a player achieved a stat like this for someone who began the game as a starting pitcher.

As reported by Codify, Shohei Ohtani tonight became the first AL/NL pitcher in history to hit a home run, triple, and single and have a walk in one game!”

While some fans applauded another record broken by the two-way star, others were simply jealous and pointed out that Ohtani conceded five runs in the seven innings he threw, with 3 homers, four hits, and five K’s.

This is how fans reacted:

Ohtani, as humble as he is, didn’t think too much of the record. Through an interpreter, he said, “I’m sure all those records come because the sample size is so small. So I don’t really look too deeply into it. But today I had a bad beginning of the game, giving up those runs. So that was the thought about the game today.”

Will the two-way sensation bag a $500 million contract when he hits free agency?

In his 150 at-bats, Ohtani has managed 8 homers, and 43 hits, and has batted in 26 runs at 0.287. On the mound, Ohtani has thrown at an expensive 3.23 and managed 71 strikeouts while conceding 19 runs. He won the AL MVP award in 2021 and ran up in 2022.

There is no doubt about Ohtani’s success in the Major Leagues and with the Angels, and the two-way star is all set to enter free agency in 2024.
