A lot of youngsters idolized Derek Jeter, and so he has got his own role models. Influential figures aren’t always necessarily from a similar professional background. So Jeter once named an inspirational presence who largely motivated him to hang around Times Square. The personality was the famous television show host Carson Daly, whose charm even enchanted Jeter’s former girlfriend Mariah Carey.
It was 2004, and the New York Yankees were making fresh additions to their roster like every year. Which meant some Yankees switched their bases to New York City for the very first time. Interestingly, it was also the year the megastar Alex Rodriguez entered the Yankees’ frame and shifted to the Big Apple. So ‘Derek Jeter’s Guide to New York’, by ESPN publications released that same year, must have come in handy for all.

Back in 2004, Derek Jeter listed his favorite picks from among tourist attractions, restaurants, bars, living accommodations, and transportation in New York. One place in particular that he happened to be largely fond of is Times Square. He noted how the place is high on entertainment and never fails to amuse. Jeter mentioned the large MTV window, which always had a big gathering of young viewers.
Describing his utmost fondness for Times Square, Jeter cited Carson Daly as his inspiring draw. Daly gained prominence while hosting the show, Total Request Live on the MTV channel. Later, Daly gained more popularity by hosting New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly from Times Square. On one of his shows, Daly even brought along Jeter’s former girlfriend and pop superstar Mariah Carey.
Speaking to the ESPN network, Jeter said, “There’s the mega-wattage, if you tire of this smile of mine. There’s the theatre, if you need some drama besides the media-induced kind. And, of course, there’s New Year’s Eve. But the best part about this place is when they tape TRL in the afternoon.”

Jeter added, saying, “There’s this crowd of cute teenage girls huddled below the MTV window, screaming at the top of their lungs. That’s fun. There’s a chance to sneak a peek at the newest VJ hottie. And well, there’s my man Carson Daly. Basically, all he does is introduce a bunch of studs in a lineup…and he’s got all these ladies after him! He even got Mariah to perform a striptease on the show!! I come here to learn from the man.”
Mariah Carey’s connection to Derek Jeter:
Jeter remained an ardent fan of Carey’s music, since his much younger days, and even fancied her. He had the wild dream of playing for the Yankees and eloping with Carey. Which obviously means he wanted to marry her one day. Jeter’s dream even partially turned into reality as they began dating in 1997.
