In a time when the audience is shifting toward the NBA and NFL, it has been difficult for MLB to retain its core audience. But just because of one player, MLB has been getting some serious attention worldwide. A dynamic force from the mound and a hit machine from the plate, Shohei Ohtani has been a Rolls-Royce of baseball over the last few years.
It is his exceptional skills that not only his teammates but rivals also heap huge praise on the two-way phenom. Most recently, the Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker was all praise for the Los Angeles Angels star. Here is what he said:

Baker praised Ohtani during a conversation with the media. It came after the game between the Los Angeles Angels and the Angels.
Mark Berman shared a video of Baker’s interview with the media. It read “Dusty Baker on Shohei Ohtani: “He changed the rules. Anybody who changes the rules on anything has to be a great player. This guy, he can outrun a deer. He can throw a hundred miles an hour, hit a ball a mile.”

The Astros skipper praised Ohtani for his abilities and said, “he can play other sports if he wants to.” He added, “You can admire his ability and his, you know, professionalism and you know ice. If he gets some foul ball, he’s generally concerned about somebody in the stands.” Baker then said that Ohtani has shown him respect in every game. He put it as a unique experience and shared, “I mean, he’s different than any ball player I’ve ever seen.”

Baker’s comment has added another chapter to Ohtani’s contract rumors as the player is in his last year of the contract with the Angels.
Will Astros make a move for the Two-Way phenom?
With the capabilities Ohtani brings to the team, he can be a great asset to the 2022 winners. He has made 12 outings as a pitcher this season and has a win-loss record of 5-1. In these games, Ohtani has claimed 96 strikeouts at a WHIP of 1.01. He has been equally good with his bat. The 28-year-old is averaging 0.262 after 57 games of the season. He has scored 33 runs and has 15 home runs to his name.
Also, as Ohtani has yet to fulfill his playoffs dream, a change in the team can be his first step. The Stars can be a destination for Ohtani. But there is a lot of competition in the market for Ohtani’s signature. It will be interesting to see where the Japanese player will play next season!
