While Aaron Boone was preparing for his comeback, Yankees Manager Aaron Boone offered a crucial update on Aaron’s rehab assignment on Sunday. In his statements, Boone said, “We haven’t determined that yet.” “It just depends. Do we want to bring him in a situation where he’s at, whatever, 60, 65, 70 pitches? Do we want him to have one more? We’ll have a better feel for that.”

“I don’t know that it’s never not felt real, but also I try not to get ahead of myself with it,” It’s like, let’s keep checking boxes, keep moving the needle. … So it’s just about continuing to move towards that point. It’s never not been real, but at the same time, we’re still not there.” he went on saying.

After exiting from a single start in the Grapefruit League in 2024, Cole has been on a long break. He was nursing an elbow inflammation in his pitching arm and has been out of action since then. However, regarding the injury, it might be very difficult for Cole to match his 2.63 ERA performance last year. Still, the Yankees’ other rotation members did a fantastic job, as Cole can take his time regaining his fitness and rhythm.

While the fans eagerly await Gerrit Cole’s return, his sudden departure from the season compelled the management to rethink their plans for the ongoing schedule. As they reconstructed the pitching staff, their core focus was building the team with their remaining starters. Carlos Rodon, Nester Cortes, and Marcus Stroman were among the names that became a part of the team. In place of Gerrit Cole, young Luis Gil was given the charge, leaving Cole’s fans worried for the Yankees’ pitching department.

In recent games, the Yankees have delivered solid performances—a 7-5 win against the San Francisco Giants yesterday—and the team looks quite powerful. This has relieved the team management, and there is no urgency for Cole’s comeback. They want Cole to be in good shape and 100% fit before playing any major baseball match. Gerrit Cole has been working in recent practice sessions, and his fastballs are constantly reaching 90. His breaking balls also look sharp, hinting at a quick recovery that will bring a spark of joy back to the fans’ faces.
