At first, the Mets offered him a 7-year, $158 million deal which Alonso and his agent Scott Boras rejected. And then the whole saga started. The Mets reportedly also put a three-year, $71 million contract on the table. However, according to the source, the first baseman rejected it owing to his preference for a higher first-year value of the two-year deal. Pete Alonso wanted a big contract for a short time and the owners did not want to spend too much on him. So they structured the deal in such a manner that Alonso got the bulk of his money in the first year. But if he opts in, he has another $24 million in 2026. And with a happy mind, Alonso headed into the spring.

And it shows how happy he is to be back with the Mets. Alonso has been launching balls into orbit and was handing out his batting gloves to one of his young fans. He also met with the owners, Steve Cohen And Alex Cohen, and was very happy while talking to them.
