Something is in the air in New York tonight. Citi Field finally got to see the New York Mets score a victory after a rough start to the season. Pete Alonso, Kodai Senga, and Mark Vientos were just among some of the few names that lit up the night. In a much-needed 8-7 walk-off win against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Mets may be finally starting to turn things around.
No one expected the performance that the highest-paying MLB team has been giving this season so far. With some players out for the count with injuries, the Mets have been struggling, to say the least. The first defeat to the Rays especially left fans angry but the second game has brought some life back to Queens. Steve Cohen, the team owner, seems particularly happy, as do fans.

April 19 was the last time the Mets won a series. Before Wednesday’s game, they had lost three of their last four match-ups. With the highest payroll in the country, this is not where anyone expected them to be. But this latest victory may breathe new life into fans who have been waiting for a turnaround. After a solid 2022 season and some huge signings in the offseason, the Mets were expected to dominate. Right now, they’re not quite there yet, but Cohen, at least, is happy.
That game was like a classic boxing match. It’s hard to imagine a more exciting game. We needed that win

“That game was like a classic boxing match. It?s hard to imagine a more exciting game. We needed that win,” the Mets owner wrote in a tweet. And indeed, with Kodai Senga’s ghost fork ball setting a new record for Japanese Mets with 12 strikeouts, as well as Pete Alonso’s three-run homer in the 10th inning, this is certainly an occasion to celebrate.
After the Mets announced that Mark Vientos would be getting called up for third base, fans debated what he could provide to the team. But he proved why he was worth the position as he hit a game-tying, two-run homer, helping the Mets win.
New York Mets fans are elated
Citi Field was alight with roaring fans as the Mets defeated the Rays in the home game. When Cohen tweeted his joy, fans immediately wanted him to extend Pete Alonso, while referring to the F-bomb he dropped right after his home run.

Some fans gave tips on which players needed to play every day for improved performance.
If you want more of these wins, management needs to buckle down and take its job more seriously:
1. Pete Alonso has to play every day.
2. Brandon Nimmo has to play every day.
3. Jeff McNeil has to play every day.
4. Brett Baty has to play every day.
5. Francisco Alvarez has…— John Frascella (Football) (@LegendSports7) May 18, 2023
Yes we did! And see what happens when you let the kids play! 😉 And they gotta play everyday no matter who is pitching.
Also, see what happens when you have power hitters who actually hit for power in the lineup?!!
Next changes have got to be to get Sanchez and Mauricio’s bats…

Vientios and Baty need to start every day. So does McNeil. Alvarez to get the majority of starts behind the plate. Let’s heat up and let the kids play.
