Change is divisive. Some hate it, while others embrace it. And that is the same case with the new rules that MLB has implemented this season. It has divided opinions, with support and resistance, both being offered by fans and experts. Most recently, the New York Yankees’ billionaire owner Hal Steinbrenner joined the debate while sharing his honest thoughts.

Steinbrenner has been vocal at times this season, offering his take on the Yankees’ year thus far. He believes that the team needs to get healthy in order to compete. But in a recent podcast interview, the Bronx Bombers’ owner also opened up about the new rules.

The new MLB rules have implemented a timer between batters. For pitchers, between pitches, there is a 15-second timer when no runners are on base and a 20-second timer with runners on base. Furthermore, batters are allowed 8 seconds to get in the box and be alert to the pitcher. These new rules have earned some divided opinion, but the Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner loves them.

During an interview on “The Michael Kay Show”, he shared his appreciation for the new rules. Steinbrenner said that they have made the game more exciting overall and brought it back to the sixties and seventies.

During the podcast, the Bombers’ owner said, “I love the new rules, as you know. Um, we were, I was on a Labor Policy Committee, so we talked to get those new rules. I think they brought baseball back to the sixties and seventies. You know, more excitement, less time in between a ball in play, I mean shorter games. We had the owner’s meetings last week, and we looked at some of the stats and they’re just amazing.”

The Yankees’ season has taken a turn for the worse after Aaron Judge got injured. This is due to questionable roster choices and off-season moves. But despite this, team owner Hal Steinbrenner is defending his GM Brian Cashman. During a recent appearance on “The Show: A NY Post baseball podcast with Joel Sherman and John Heyman”, he backed Cashman. The Yankees’ owner described his GM as a good leader with a balanced mindset. With this statement, the Bombers seem to be stuck with Cashman’s leadership despite the worsening results.
