At the age of 57, with 733 career wins, 16 State Titles, and 22 Conference Titles, coach Greg Simmons, who trained the Charlotte Christian since 1989, passed after succumbing to a cancer battle. Taking a long list of admirers by shock after his death, the coach trained many players, 95 of whom made it to college, while 10 others became Major League draft pics. Not only did coach Simmons achieve lots of success in the park, but he was also deeply respected and adored by various colleagues and players across the sporting realm. Analogous to that, his passing hurt many.
The passing of a legend
Spanning three decades, Simmons won various accolades, including multiple Coach of the Year mentions, along with an entry into the North Carolina Baseball Coaches Association. After his death, Charlotte Christian School tweeted a short tribute to the legendary coach’s storied career.

Of the many talented athlete’s Coach Simmons nurtured, two brothers in particular, Daniel Bard and Luke Bard, stood out as notable figures in the MLB, garnering significant attention and popularity within the league with their pitching.
37-year-old Daniel Bard made his debut in 2009 with the Boston Red Sox. After playing with the BoSox for four years, he played in various minor-league franchises until 2020. Since 2020, he has stuck with the Colorado Rockies in the Major Leagues.
His brother, on the other hand, made his MLB debut with the Los Angeles Angels in 2018. The 32-year-old moved to Tampa in 2022, and after being sent on assignment, came to the New York Yankees in the same year.
