Notably, Jeter has been a part of the Yankees organization since the 1992 MLB season. During the 1992 MLB draft, the Yankees selected Jeter as the sixth overall pick. Being an 18-year-old, it was nothing but a dream to be a part of a team as big as the Yankees. His entire family went through a lot of emotions when they found that Jeter would finally get to play for his dream team someday.

The time when Derek Jeter became a Yankee

When the Yankees picked Derek Jeter as the sixth overall pick in the 1992 MLB draft, Jeter’s family could not believe it for a while. Taking to Twitter, Jeter shared a clip from the first episode of ‘The Captain.’ In the video, his mother, sister, and father were over the moon after his selection for the Yankees organization.

They also shared how it was a life-changing moment for the entire family. Jeter’s mother revealed the Yankees were his dream team.

“I picked up the phone. Of course, I act stupid. Derek, it’s the New York Yankees… Even I don’t know what I was doing…,” Jeter’s mother said. “Because that was his dream team.”

His younger sister was also in awe when she got to know that the Yankees had selected Jeter in the 1992 MLB draft.

“Grandma’s gonna have a heart attack… I remember I had come home from school and then I had taken a nap. Just had fallen asleep and then got up. So it was like kind of like almost being in a dream state… Growing up all I saw him in was Yankees hats and Yankees jackets. That’s all he wore,” revealed Jeter’s sister.

And last but not the least, Derek Jeter’s father also congratulated him for becoming a Yankee. “New York Yankees, man! I am proud of you… You deserve it,” Jeter’s father said in the video.
