Over the years, Carey has talked about her short-lived relationship with Derek Jeter many times. She talked about how dating Jeter was exactly the thing that she needed to understand that she deserved better things in life.
In an interview with Vibe Magazine in 1998, Carey got asked about her relationship with the athlete. With a sad smile on her face, she agreed with the fact that part of her life was over. Later, she got asked about the things she used to look for in a guy. To this, she replied, “I feel so untrusting of men in general. I went from high school to full-blown work to being in a relationship with a much older man.”
Notably, at the time when Carey started dating Jeter, she was still married to the producer, Tommy Mottola. Carey and Mottola had an age difference of 20 years, and she was fresh out of high school when she first met him at the age of 18.

How long did Jeter and Carey date?
The former couple had met each other at a dinner party in 1997. And they instantly hit it off. They started dating soon after and dated till 1998.

Although their relationship was not long-lasting, Carey had talked about how Jeter was the catalyst that she needed to divorce her husband, Tommy Mottola. The reason behind it was that she was in a toxic relationship with Mottola. But she was unable to break it off until Jeter came into her life.
