Freddie Freeman is recovering nicely from his ankle injury incurred last season. Missing some and playing some, the Los Angeles Dodgers star made history in Game 1 of the World Series. And while he may miss spring training this month, with the new season to commence soon, he’s looking to make a comeback. Additionally, with his own health improving, so is his son’s.
At the end of October 2024, Freddie Freeman had to suddenly rush back to Los Angeles as his son was diagnosed with a rare disease—Guillain-Barre syndrome. It is a neurological condition that enables the immune system to attack the nerves, causing paralysis. Soon after, Freeman returned to his home, his son was hospitalized in a paediatric intensive care unit.
Maximus Freeman had been originally diagnosed with the syndrome in late July. However, Freeman returned to play on August 5, after his son was discharged from the hospital, and had an impressive season with him: a.282 batting average, 153 hits, 89 RBIs, 22 home runs, and 81 runs scored in just 147 games.

Now on February 2, 2025, he shared more on his son’s condition, “Once he gets that to strengthen his left leg, he’s going to be flying around the bases you’ll see him after on Sunday’s basis.” Freeman, whom the host calls a ‘Champion to the people,’ mentioned how his family has been doing well in taking care of Maximus, and he is showing good signs of recovery too.

The slugger went on to say that his wife, Chelsea, would soon share some pictures of their son walking gradually. Maximus is even trying to run more nowadays, “Once he gets that strength back in his left leg, he’s gonna be flying around the bases.”
Freddie Freeman is very optimistic about the games he will play with the Dodgers in the near future, especially since his son is recovering quickly from the rare illness. Even during his absence in few games, the Dodgers’ players wore shirts to support his son in times of distress. Now all he needs is to recover quickly in time for the season himself.

Freddie Freeman’s comeback looks unlikely ahead of spring training
Freddie Freeman, was the Most Valuable Player in the 2024 World Series even after he suffered an injury to his ankle. After contributing to the team, he had surgery, and now some major updates are coming up regarding his return to the mound. When asked about his return during the DodgersFest, Freeman said, “I don’t think that I will be in the games at the beginning of spring training.” While this news might make a lot of fans unhappy, it is indeed true that he hasn’t recovered fully after the surgery as of now. So what lies ahead for him?
Well, Freeman is expected to be a part of live BP and will undergo some rigorous workout and training sessions. It would allow him the time to gradually improve and be ready before the start of the Dodgers Tokyo Series, which he intends to play. The Los Angeles Dodgers are all set to begin their 2025 season in Tokyo, where they will play against the Chicago Cubs. Thus, getting Freeman there would be a great thing, as he would play first base and Shohei Ohtani could play as their designated hitter.
