Home/Golf

To many, swinging a club is not too different from swinging a bat. Both golf and baseball utilize metal alloys and hardwood with hitters requiring a powerful to aid their technique. So it’s really no surprise that players from one bleed into the other, whether professionally or casually. Mike Trout is one such big name.

The Los Angeles Angels slugger is so fond of the greens that he’s currently in the process of building his own facility at home. Helping him is none other than his longtime friend Tiger Woods, a legendary golfer. Discussing everything from his two beloved sports, Trout also shed light on Woods’ interests in a recent interview.

Having a healthy knowledge of one’s interests and passions is fairly common. But to be lauded by an expert in the field is quite a compliment. Baseball is so woven into America’s culture that only a small part of athletes ever go pro. The rest enjoy watching from a distance, or in rare cases, choose another sport over it. Tiger Woods is one such entity, who may be a golfing legend but loves America’s favorite pastime.

Friends with not only Trout but former Yankees captain Derek Jeter, Woods has been associated with more than a few MLB teams. But he’s a self-proclaimed Los Angeles Dodgers fan. The team, incidentally Mookie Betts, plays for. The slugger interviewed Mike Trout for his “On Base With Mookie Betts” podcast, where the baseball duo discussed many things.

Getting to Woods and golf, Betts offhandedly mentions, “I think he’s a baseball fan.” Trout confirms the statement, “A big baseball fan. He knows his stuff.” Although it would seem like a compliment from a friend, considering the 11x All-Star selections Trout has, one can easily say it’s more than simple praise.

At a certain point in the past, the renowned golfer and a celebrated baseball player were neighbors who once put on a baseball show.

Woods Was Once Neighbors With Ken Griffey Jr.

The amount of iconic names here is enough to make anyone’s head spin. Ken Griffey Jr. is a Seattle Mariners legend, and once used to be Woods’ neighbor. The two are still good friends, and Griffey even took part in the Masters Tournament last year. But way back in 1999, the two legends once put on their hats backward and took batting practice at the Mariners’ ballpark.

It was a legendary night, with Griffey giving his usual outstanding production. But Woods, who used to play baseball with his dad as a kid, clearly found it a bit difficult to hit a moving ball rather than a stationary one.

Nevertheless, the golfer remains a devoted baseball fan and still appears at games from time to time. Some childhood memories never fade, it seems.
