It’s not unusual to see multi-sport athletic friendships, but snubs are rarer. Former New York Yankees star Derek Jeter is known to the baseball world for his clutch skills. But he’s even more renowned for his famous friendships with Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods. After retirement from MLB, Jeter took up golf and even received praise from Woods. But perhaps what no one expected was a cold snub from the golf legend to the former Yankee captain.

Woods and Jeter have long been entangled in scandals affecting their personal lives, but neither has let the drama affect their friendship. But does Woods’ comment from last December tell fans otherwise?

Tiger Woods once named MLB’s ‘Big Three’ as his best golf buddies

When speaking about golf, it’s impossible not to utter the name Tiger Woods. But there are athletes from other sports, particularly baseball, who also excel at swinging a club. Jeter is a self-proclaimed perfectionist and never admits to his excellent golf abilities, although Woods praises him.

But when asked about his favorite celebrity foursome that he’d ever played with, the golfer chose three names from the golden era of the Atlanta Braves – John Smoltz, Tom Glavine, and Greg Maddux. They were known as the ‘Big Three’ during the 1990s and famously helped the Braves win in the 1995 World Series.

“Smoltz, Glavine, and Maddux, when they were all pitching with the Braves. That was epic. I shot 62, 63 and lost money,” said a highly impressed Woods in an interview with Bleacher Report once. Smoltz reportedly won the game, and Woods lost money! He hadn’t earned the title of golf icon just yet.

When the interview came out in December 2022, some wondered why Jeter wasn’t mentioned. After all, the two friends had gone through much media drama in the 2000s.

Woods may be lauded for his golfing skills, but if there’s one thing the media openly criticizes him for, it’s his rumored infidelity. The golfer reportedly had an extramarital affair with Rachel Uchitel, a New York City nightclub manager, while still being married to Elin Nordegren. Jeter had introduced the two while Uchitel was dating the Yankee legend.

After an endless era of scandalous reports, the two sports personalities maintain their friendship. But clearly, Jeter needs to brush up on his golf skills more to be named among Woods’ best golf partners.
