“This Team Would Be Elite…” – Trending Image of New York Yankees Stars in Facial Hair Makes MLB Fans Embrace the Fresh Look

An image of three New York Yankees stars, two present and one former, is trending. It was a special occasion for one of the MLB stars among the trio. The two present-day Yankees showed up with facial hair, unlike their usual clean-shaven appearance during the ongoing seasons. Consequently, an overwhelming majority of the fans have gone crazy in admiration. 

The circulating image is from December 13, 2022, which was the 26th birthday of the Yankees’ shortstop Gleyber Torres. Featuring alongside him were teammate Nestor Cortes Jr. and former teammate Gio Urshela. Torres and Cortes Jr. showed up in facial hair, which is somewhat strange for a Yankees player.

The Yankees have had an enthralling MLB season despite the eventual postseason woes. Starting off as one of the favorites, the Yankees appeared as prime contenders for World Series triumph at one point. Now, with the season behind them, the players are enjoying their time out with family and friends. The fans have thus primarily taken note of the fresh look of the Yankees’ duo.

What did the fans have to say about the appearance of the New York Yankees stars? 

Since the late George Steinbrenner took ownership of the Yankees, the team has maintained a strict facial hair policy. As per the rules, each Yankee player has to be either clean-shaven or keep a tidy mustache. So the image featuring Gleyber Torres and Nestor Cortes Jr. with facial hair has created a topic of gossip among fans. Interestingly, former Yankee Giovanny Urshela, who is now a Los Angeles Angels player, was the clean-shaven one. 

The Talkin’ Yanks Network shared the image on their official Twitter account with the caption, “Gleyber’s birthday party.” 

One impressed fan replied to the post, writing, “Convinced this team would be elite and play better with facial hair.” 

Another fan wrote, “Those beards are perfectly acceptable – if it makes them happy & as a result they play better because of it – let them grow beards. A recent survey of business professionals found 90% were allowed to have facial hair at work, as long as it was kept neat and clean.”

How did the trio perform at the recently concluded MLB season? 

The two-time All-Star Torres smashed 24 home runs with 76 RBIs, averaging 0.257. Nestor Cortes Jr. had a 12-4 win-loss record, with 163 strikeouts with a 2.44 ERA. He also became an All-Star player for the first time this year. Thus, both Yankees had magnificent campaigns on an individual note. Whereas, playing for the Minnesota Twins, Urshela smashed 13 home runs, with 64 RBIs, averaging 0.285.
