The Los Angeles Angels have not played their best baseball in the last few years. They have not made the postseason since 2014, failing to do so even last year. In 2022, the Angels finished the season with 73 wins but were never in the playoff picture. This is despite franchise star Mike Trout playing some fantastic baseball.
For more than a decade Trout has been one of the best baseball players in the League, but the Angels have failed to capitalize on it. The Angels’ star centerfielder recently opened up on the possibility of his best teammate leaving and what his plan is. Yes! For those unversed, Trout is willing to do anything to keep the two-way star Shohei Ohtani in Anaheim. But the question is, will Trout be able to convince Ohtani to stay?

Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani are two of the best players in MLB right now. But with Ohtani hitting free agency in 2024, Trout may lose the best teammate he’s ever had. Most recently, the Angels outfielder opened up on Ohtani leaving. Trout stated that he will do his best to persuade Ohtani to stay with the Angels and sign a new contract. Talkin’ Yanks shared the news via Twitter.

In a Tweet, Talkin’ Yanks said, “‘I’m gonna do whatever I can to keep him here.’ -Mike Trout on Shohei Ohtani”. It makes sense that Trout would do that. If Ohtani left, he may never have a teammate as good as the Japanese star. Furthermore, the Angels have almost no young prospects that look set for stardom.
Fans have reacted to Trout’s statement and seem discouraged. Some fans doubt that anything Trout says will convince Ohtani to sign a new contract. Others have stated that there’s no way the Japanese star would stay and cracked jokes at Trout’s statement.

Give him part of your salary?? Be another pitcher?
— Tucker Seal (@Tseal14) February 15, 2023
Give me a reason for him to stay? They can’t build a farm to save their life and they can’t sign good free agents..

This season will be very important for the Angels. It may determine their franchise’s future direction. Both stars recently reported for Spring Training ahead of the new season. If they make the postseason, the Japanese two-way star may be convinced to sign a new deal. It will be interesting to see how the Angels perform in 2023.
The Angels will miss out on the postseason in 2023
Most analysts and experts predict that the Los Angeles Angels will miss out on the postseason once again this year. This would be a disaster as the team has not made the postseason since 2014. Trout will turn 32 this year and Ohtani hits free agency after this season, two things to watch out for the Angels to keep in mind.
