Derek Jeter represents strength, competitiveness and an ever-lasting fighting spirit that only increments with every passing day. Without any doubt, the legacy Jeter left behind stretched beyond his individual performances and achievements. Identically, Jeter stands to be one of the greatest Yankees to play the game because his attitude resonated with the Yankee fandom.

He always led from the front and stood behind his teammates. Five World Championships, five Silver Slugger Awards, and five Golden Gloves don’t do enough justice to represent what Jeter did for the Yankees. Consequently, the Yanks added Jeter to Monument Park and retired his jersey number 2 in 2017.

Markedly, in 2020, the Veterans Committee elected Jeter into the Baseball Hall of Fame after being picked on 396 out of 397 ballots with a 99.75% majority. In light of the global pandemic, his official induction ceremony pushed itself by a year to September 9, 2021. One year after being inducted, the Yankee front office celebrates Jeter’s induction at Yankee Stadium.

As Jeter’s speech was emotionally appealing and nostalgic, to say the least, the emotion that caught the eye was the feeling of being back home. Following that, after the ceremony, Jeter tweeted his reception to the ceremony. He said, “Great to be back home at Yankee Stadium! Thanks to everyone for making it such a special night for me and my family.”
In a video that displayed the Jeter family on the way to Yankee stadium, his daughters demanded ice cream and hot dogs after they reached the stadium. Given that, Jeter humorously concluded his post by saying, “The girls had a blast and finally got their ice cream.”
Who after Captain Jeter?
Leading the Yankees has never been about performances, statistics, and numbers. It’s been about attitude, a competitive fighting spirit, and, in extension, strong, persistent, and active leadership. Balanced against this idea, Jeter was the most fitting candidate to captain the Yankees. However, 8 years since Jeter retired, the Yankees are yet to appoint a new skipper. In today’s day and age, Aaron Judge has hallmarked himself as the face of the Yankees. Analogous to that, columnist, Jeff Passan, said, “Aaron Judge is the closest thing that the NY Yankees have had to Derek Jeter. He is a captain, and he is a leader in the clubhouse.”
