The San Francisco Giants are hoping to have a great advantage amidst the news coming about the All-Star free agent Pete Alonso. The game for the first baseman continued in the past week, and many of the options have been signed or traded. However, Pete Alonso is not among the ones traded yet, as his options dwindled. The New York Mets are not sure of the way he might be aging, and they aren’t looking for a long-term contract with him.

Alonso has been unable to find any takers yet, especially since the Astros, Yankees, Guardians, and Diamondbacks have all signed or traded for a first baseman. The ongoing’ stalemate between the New York Mets and Alonso has given rise to speculations of the Giants ready to have Pete in their team. However, considering that he has little market outside the Mets, it looks like he might end up returning to the team.

Sweepstakes shrinking for Mets’ $150 million star without any takers

Much of Alonso’s value comes from over-the-fence production, however, it does not logically fit into the paper. Despite the Giants willing to get him back, he might not be able to live up to the expectations as a player with a massive long-term contract. It is expected that there will be a massive drop in power numbers for Pete in Oracle Park. The slugger managed a .240 batting average, 88 RBIs, and 34 home runs, which is also considered a downside this season. The sweepstake even shrank further after he declined a major offer in pursuit of a long-term contract, which did not go successful. Thus, having no takers, he might have to move back to his team, although, Pete and his agent Scott Boras are not in a hurry.

Although Pete Alonso is a power hitter, he might not be the first choice for the Giants. His power-hitting ability might not come in handy in California’s ballpark, when the weather gets colder, creating a paradise for the pitchers. In that case, the Giants might feel a bit dissatisfied with the large investment that they make in the slugger. They however, have made a major signing of the free agent Willy Adames for a seven-year $182 million contract. It gives a clear indication of how the club intends to move forward under the leadership of their president, Buster Posey.

The San Francisco Giants’ signing shortstop Willy Adames comes as a surprise

The reason the San Francisco Giants hired Willy Adames is that they wanted a pitcher. Buster Posey is a legend and has done wonders for them. They were looking for someone at shortstop, as Tyler Fitzgerald’s defense lacked something that the team wanted. Thus, by signing Adames, they could move him to the second base. It has been a priority for the Giants since the first day of the offseason, and they are quite lucky to get him.

With Buster Posey’s leadership, they have already signed one of the best from the free agency market. With Willy’s impressive power and defense, 107 home runs in four seasons, he looks like a game-changer for the team. His home runs though might take a little dip considering the Oracle park to be the worst ballpark in MLB. He is still considered a great signing and gives a good indication of what the team might expect in the future.

The big question remains on how the Giants could address their second priority after the Adames’ signing. They want to try a pitching presence for a rotation, and speculations are high of signing Corbin Burnes, a young talent who competed at Saint Mary’s College in Moraga. The Boston Red Sox even made an offer for him after the New York Yankees signed Max Fried. However, by signing Sandoval and Buehler, chances look bleak about Burnes getting to the Red Sox. This makes the Giants a current favorite to land him on the team.
