This off-season signaled a new beginning for Giancarlo Stanton. He lost weight and looked to be in top condition after a greatly disappointing 2023 campaign. In Spring Training, he continued to impress with gaudy numbers and a chip on his shoulder. But as the regular season started, it all collapsed as Stanton’s bad form re-emerged.
The New York Yankees‘ season has gotten off to a good start despite the superstar slugger struggling. But he continues to be a liability in a lineup that desperately needs some oomph in the middle order. But Giancarlo Stanton may not be the Bombers’ answer to that problem.

Following his Spring Training heroics, Giancarlo Stanton has sorely underperformed in his 6 regular season games thus far. From a batting average of .317 in Spring, he has dropped to .125. Furthermore, his single home run doesn’t help amidst a struggle to get big hits following a Spring where he hit homers for fun. This has been a trend over the last few years.

His batting average had dipped but Stanton manages to hit 20+ homers in a full season. Now, that power seems to have vanished as well in the early season. This is a massive concern for the Bombers as they aim for a deep playoff run and a potential World Series challenge. It remains to be seen whether Stanton can get back to his very best.

In 2022 and 2023, injuries hampered his form, leaving his production looking like a lesser version of Kyle Schwarber. Hopefully, his form can turn around as the season truly gets underway.
Is Stanton on his decline, or is a recovery in form possible?
Turning 35 years old in November, Giancarlo Stanton is not getting any younger. This makes it hard to ascertain whether his current form is a decline in peak or just a regular slump. Looking at his form over the last 2-3 years, the Yankees may need to prepare for the worst in regards to their star slugger. The team has to pay him until 2027 at least and it might be time to cut their losses. A return to form is not out of the realm of possibility, but looks unlikely at this point.
