Freddie Freeman's tribute to Maximus—Does this make you respect him more as a player and a father?

Freddie Freeman and his family went through an emotional rollercoaster earlier this month when their son, Maximus, was rushed to the emergency room with full-body paralysis. Maximus was then diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare neurological condition. His sudden health emergency got everyone on edge, be it family, the team, or even fans. As Freddie took a hiatus from the games to support his family, Chelsea, his wife, kept everyone praying for their little one on the loop about his status on Instagram.

Luckily, because of getting adequate care at the right time, young Maximus fought through the turbulent time. Maximus got well enough to be discharged and head back home. Recently, the Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman revealed his custom cleats, a touching tribute to his youngest son. Meanwhile, Chelsea Freeman shared the good news about Maximus’s health – that their brave little boy was doing much better and had made tremendous progress over the week.

Anytime a child suffers, parents endure pain like no other and a fear grips them. Luckily for the Freemans, the time of bearing that unimaginable pain is slowly passing. After her last update about coming back home with Maximus, fans were waiting with bated breath for another update on his recovery. Chelsea Freeman just shared that Maximus has made a lot of progress this week. He can sit on his own now and has even started army crawling.

We have had great follow-up appointments with our pediatrician and neurologists this week. People say GBS stands for “Getting Better Slowly” 🐢. We have seen a lot of progress in the last week and a half. Max is mostly sleeping through the night again. He is sitting unassisted and even started army crawling the last few days” said Chelsea Freeman on Instagram. Guillain-Barré syndrome can take months to recover from; patients need to regain enough strength to be able to do their everyday functioning like sitting, standing or even walking. While there is no certain cure, with proper care, it is possible. Maximus, too, is recovering well, as Chelsea stated. However, the journey surely hasn’t been easy for them.

Chelsea mentions in her Instagram post that life truly hasn’t been the same for them anymore. She noted how her new routine was surrounding doctor appointments and physical therapy, and all geared towards getting Maximus getting better slowly! She even took the time to thank the Los Angeles Dodgers team for sharing their well-wishes and lovely gifts during those tough times. Truly, the team has been an immense support for the family, and recently, the team even shared the love that Freddie expressed for his son on X.

Freddie Freeman was on a brief hiatus from the games, he was busy with his family. Maximus’ diagnosis is a rare condition and even rarer in children; and when Freddie Freeman joined the team back on Aug 5, he talked about the entire experience. “He didn’t deserve this, ” said Freddie Freeman at a conference. Throughout the turbulent times, the Dodgers team stood behind their teammate, even wearing shirts with ‘Max Strong” written on them, during Maximus’s hospitalization. As they say, a team is a family and the team just proved it.

After his return, Freeman has been key in the team’s offense position. In just 10 games, he has collected four RBIs in 41 at-bats. He even has an impressive .317/.349/.463 slash line. We often hear that time heals, and for the Freeman family, this is proving true. Freddie has gone back to doing what he does best, and fortunately, young Maximus is also fighting back each day and getting better with his will, the help of doctors, and his doting mother.
